After almost ten years as a gallery owner and curator, I’ve viewed, exhibited and collected many different types of work over the years. Even after all that I’ve seen, I find myself still excited when viewing an artist’s work for the first time. Especially when an artist presents a body of work that is so distinct and original, it takes me by surprise. My selection today is from an artist who gave me the pleasure of experiencing a new body of work with an incredible concept.

Terry Mason describes himself as being preoccupied with life’s fleeting existence, which I think many people are contemplating about now. As a sculptor, he has created his own world using elements of the reality we all experience. According to Terry, the central components of his work are humor, surprising materials, preposterous juxtapositions and craftsmanship.

KIN is the type of work I need today. It made me smile, made me think and made want to explore Terry’s world in stead of dealing my own. I reminded me that I have a lot to look forward too, new art, new artists and new perspectives. I hope those keeping up with this project, feel the same.
