LA Hope Dealer

Street artists and muralists may rein supreme when the dust settles in the post outbreak art world. Their ability to react, create and distribute work to a mass audience is what separates them from the orthodox artists. While the mandated closures of art institutions have been problematic for traditional fine art, those accustomed to working outside the conventional gallery setting are thriving.

My selection today embodies the mission of ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™. A recently completed mural on North Doheny Drive in Los Angeles by Corie Mattie relays a message of optimism for the community. This self described ‘Hope Dealer’ created a vivid and blunt reminder that this state of suspended activity is just temporary.

I wanted to use my platform to showcase contemporary artists creating work relevant to a growing global issue. Corie’s mural and the artwork created in the now deserted city streets by other fine art outsiders, will redefine the contemporary art landscape.
