Dab Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Micheal Swank titled IN EXILE at the NAMBA Arts Space in Downtown Ventura.
Swank's art is an elucidation of his existence as a man, an explorer and educator. Mixing references from his travels, religious conflict and the current political climate, Micheal examines the often volatile and even ironic division of our society through a luminous and stimulating exhibition of mixed media works.
This collection of large and small-scaled artworks responds to social trials and political persecutions experienced through a uniquely queer perspective. Micheal combines direct and obscure imagery, suggesting an important equivalence between factual and fictional based incidents. IN EXILE is a futile quest for individual sanctity in a divided society occupied by counterfeit realities.
Micheal’s current works are visually rousing in part due to their intense color and composition. IN EXILE works include figures, landscapes, cityscapes and abstracts, each accomplished in a seemingly flawless fashion. Using oils, inks, pencils, photography and collage, Micheal manipulates a variety of materials to impeccably execute each of his highly provoking and collectable pieces.
IN EXILE is a very special show, as it may be the final exhibition in the U.S. for this Ventura based contemporary artist. Embarking on a new adventure, Micheal is relocating to Mexico City in early 2018.
