TAKOYAKI
TAKOYAKI
TAKOYAKI is currently in post production and we are hoping for a release date this year. We’ve filmed throughout Southern California and Japan following this incredible story of identity and artist process. Though originally set for release in 2020, we were set back by travel restricitions out in place because of the pandemic.
This film features Edgar Takoyaki, a gifted and multifacited photographer based in Southern California. Born in Mexico and brought to the U.S. illegally as an infant, Edgar has finally found his place as both an artist and a person through Japanese culture.
Out teaser trailer is available to view and we’re looking to finish up and release this film early in 2022.. Keep scrolling to read about our locations and production.
EDGAR’S STUDIO
We began filming at Edgar’s home studio in Ventura, California. Here he creates one of kind sci-fi inspired sets using homemade props and lighting techniques, toys and discarded materials. It was hard to not want to play with everything.
APOCALYSPE SHOOT
The apocalypse shoot was filmed on a private orchard in Carpinteria, California. The smoke, the sun, the hills and ocean were an amazing backdrop for his apocalyptic vision.
TOKYO, JAPAN
Tokyo was a first for me, but Edgar was right at home. Japan is where Edgar thrives, his attitude, his work and commitment to his craft was evident. We walked for no less than 10 hours a day, everyday exploring the city and shooting along the way.; the people, the architecture, the food and culture. We are actually planning another trip to for additional footage to hopefully complete our film.
ARTIST
Edgar Takoyaki developed his passion for photography after documenting his first visit to Japan with a point-and-shoot camera in 2005. In the years since, Edgar has studied the technical side of photography while developing his distinctive style. His subjects are varied, from portraiture and travel photography to elaborately staged sci-fi-noir scenes. Much of his work reflects the influence of Japanese culture and science fiction, and is distinguished by a dark, atmospheric quality that suggests a larger story behind each image.
