A Symphony of Resistance and Expression
Dama Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of work by the collaborative duo Gemelxs titled “A Symphony of Resistance and Expression”.
Curated by Michael Swank of Art Gallery Studios, as part of The Bureau of Queer Art Volume 4 Pink Tide Group Exhibition, this solo feature will be available to view from May 15, 2024, to August 15, 2024.
The Gemelxs, known for their provocative and insightful art, explore themes centered around the human body as a site of struggle and narrative reclamation.
The exhibition represents a critical dialogue on the representation and visibility of queer bodies and narratives in contemporary art. "The Gemelxs not only challenge the status quo but also redefine the parameters of artistic expression through their innovative use of materials and poignant thematic explorations," says Swank.
The Gemelxs have been featured in significant venues such as the Clavo Movimiento Art Fair and Farmacia Internacional, further solidifying their impact on the art scene. Their participation in this exhibition highlights their immense talent and commitment to advocating for change and celebrating diversity within the arts.
This exhibition is not just a showcase of exceptional talent but also a celebration of the resilience and diversity of the queer community through the lens of contemporary art. It promises to be a memorable event that will leave a lasting impact on all attendees and viewers.
ARTIST
The Gemelxs VS are non binary twins: Victoria Moctezuma and Hugo Enrique and based in Mexico City.
All individuals inhabit a body, each one unique from the others. We embody the first and immediate evidence of human diversity and shared humanity. If we recognize this, we could expand the possibilities of choice and dignified development. For example, adjusting public spaces to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities.
Both freedom of expression and access to information are essential to celebrate differences. We have vast potential to do this with digital platforms, but the challenges are significant as more people access and share them through these means. The digital space is also a public space and an area to be dignified for everyone.
