We are thrilled to present “Maita”, an exclusive online solo exhibition featuring the captivating photographs by acclaimed artist Alex Cabrera. The exhibition showcases a collection of 12 exquisite works that invite viewers to delve into Cabrera's unique artistic vision.

In his artistic practice, Cabrera harnesses the power of his own body as the primary tool in his photographic work. Through introspection and a profound exploration of his past, he embarks on a transformative journey, assuming the roles of actor, spectator, and photographer engaged in constant dialogue. It is within this intimate process that he unearths the characters and memories that serve as catalysts for his creative expression.

The themes of body, gender, and memory take center stage in Cabrera's artistic endeavors. Each of his photographs serves as a window into his personal intimacy, capturing hidden desires, unsettling discomforts, and the intricate web of relationships that have shaped his identity. The images on display in MAITA reflect his unyielding pursuit of self-discovery and the narratives that have shaped him into the artist he is today.

Alex Cabrera, born in Álamo, Veracruz, México, in 1988, holds a Master's degree in Photography and Visual Studies from Centro ADM in Mexico City. He is also a graduate of Communication from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Puebla. Cabrera's exceptional talent has garnered recognition, including his selection in the XIX Biennial of Photography at the Centro de la Imagen and being awarded the prestigious New Talents POY LATAM 2023 prize. His works have been featured in both solo and group exhibitions across Mexico, the United States, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, and Uruguay.
