LISA CAREN
From the very first, I was driven to follow an artistic life: I was born in the historic village of Woodstock NY, the arts center of the Catskill Mountains, host to the Hudson River School of painters during the late 1800s. The Arts and Crafts Movement came to Woodstock in 1902, with the arrival of Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead, Bolton Brown and Hervey White. My own neighborhood was ripe with artists such as painter/pianist Marilyn Hauser and suculptor Sylva Hutchins.
Thus inspired I studied photography & theatre in my youth and traveled. I lived in the south of France for 12 years, where I was inspired by artists, such as the contemporary artists Donna Flandrin, Vanina Cristofari and Armand Avril. Once back in the States, Leica D-LUX in hand, I turned to photography. I choose to specialize in the large format photos to capture the wide panorama of nature that one sees from the border of land and sea. These shots were taken from Rhode Island’s coast, Coastal North Carolina, the Riviera and the California Coast.
Each picture uses a Premium Archival mount designed specifically for museums, galleries and artists to protect images from moisture damage. The images are sandwiched between polished Plexiglas and anodized aluminum for added protection and finished with aluminum tube brace to prevent warping over time.
