FOR THE FERRYMAN | GLENN CARTER
6/5 - 9/5, 2021
The Dab Art Co. is pleased to present For The Ferryman, a solo exhibition of works by Santa Cruz based artist Glenn Carter. Glenn’s prolific and distinguished career as a mixed media artist spans five decades. Throughout that time, he’s recorded the scrupulous and unwavering artistic process for each one of his works; a daunting and extraordinary task. Similar to most creatives, there are times when a particular piece or series never quite comes to fruition or need to be paused when other projects take priority.
Recognizing and reflecting on the collective societal pause during the early days of the pandemic, Glenn utilized his time in quarantine to revisit many of his unfinished pieces in the studio. Reconfigured and completed between mid March and mid June 2020, For The Ferryman is an exhibition of works evolved from the isolation of the lockdown.
Imagining concepts of passage, reflection and unknown directions from the corporal merging with the ethereal, these mixed media pieces constitute elements of past incomplete works reanimated within the “Corona” context and mythic teachings of an afterlife and rebirth.
Drawing from his meticulous records, transposing the knowledge gained with these formative works, Glenn explored sculpture increasingly in terms of an ongoing dialogue of actions and reactions between viewers and objects. For the Ferryman is the completion of Glenn’s previously paused ideas. By bridging the gap between concept and execution, he continues forward in his artistic quest probing the internal aesthetic relations between sculpture and painting.
