Essential to the nature of evolution and bio variation, a mutation is an accidental change in a genetic sequence that sometimes guides to a change of organism’s form, where the concerned organism becomes outstandingly distinctive within its own kin. Wang holds herself fortunate on account of once having one of those godly creatures, living in a coop of her grandparents’ remote suburban home in her not so remote childhood. The chicken, with an underdeveloped third leg, was destined to become the ontological precursor of her artistic essence and later the centerpiece of her artistic opus. Made of contemporary materials, with the assistance of advanced computer technology, Wang’s artwork of mutated chickens manifests childishness and happiness.
Feiran Wang was born in HuangShan, China. She currently lives and works in Irvine, California. Coming from a family of architects, Wang came to the United States to study for her master’s degree in architecture design. She won the thesis merit prize for designing her grandparents’ house based on forms and textures of mutated chickens. Since receiving her master’s degree, she has been fully dedicated to fine art in the contemporary art scene as a sculptor, painter and printmaker of mutated chickens.
Private viewing rooms, artwork details and and collector acquisitions are available on ARTSY.
