2023 CLOSER TO THE SUN
EXHIBITION
"Closer To The Sun" presents a series of conceptual images that shed light on the dangers of a warming planet and the complex environmental challenges we confront today. Through these themes, Milhomme compels us to recognize the urgent need to restore harmony and balance between humanity and the natural environment.
Janet Milhomme, based in Los Angeles, is a versatile artist who seamlessly blends her background in journalism with a passion for storytelling. Her portfolio encompasses diverse genres, including architecture, documentary, conceptual, and pop images. With an unwavering focus on technical precision, artistic composition, and thematic expression, Milhomme creates thought-provoking and visually stunning compositions.
Internationally recognized, Milhomme's work has graced the pages of prestigious newspapers, magazines, and books, captivating audiences worldwide with its profound narratives. She has received numerous accolades from esteemed institutions, including multiple awards from Women in Photography International (WIPI) and three consecutive triumphs at the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers. In 2020, Milhomme was honored as a Top 20 Finalist at Photo LA, solidifying her position as an esteemed artist in the industry.
Milhomme's digital composites, created from multiple images captured in environmentally compromised areas, serve as both artistic expressions and potent statements of activism. Through beautiful metaphors, she aims to raise awareness about the devastating environmental destruction that surrounds us.
The exhibition draws inspiration from the Salton Sea, an ecological disaster unfolding in California's Imperial Valley. This once-vibrant lake, now heavily polluted and rapidly shrinking, serves as a poignant symbol of the water scarcity issues plaguing the western United States. Joining the Salton Sea in distress, numerous bodies of water worldwide inch closer to devastation as extreme heat and drought cause their waters to recede.
In a world where human actions increasingly disrupt rather than nurture the planet, "Closer To The Sun" serves as a cautionary tale. The exhibition's final images confront us with the potential chaos and catastrophe that may unfold if we fail to take decisive action. Milhomme's art invites deep reflection, awakening our collective consciousness and inspiring positive change.
