BEFORE IT FADES

BEFORE IT FADES | ESZTER SZIKSZ

4/24 - 6/24, 2021

The Dab Art Co. is please to present BEFORE IT FADES, a solo exhibition of works by Eszter Sziksz. Sziksz is also a featured artist in the ImPosible group exhibition. Curated by Micheal Swank, ImPosible is currently on display at our Mexico City location Proyectos Galería (PRPG.MX).

Eszter Sziksz’s printmaking defies logic and embraces the temporary. Rooted in tradition but an exploration of all the elements opposing traditional printmaking. As a printmaker, she explores the Ephemeron – or shifting material states of each piece as it grows in time, decays, and leaves a trace of memory. Her prints can take the shape of a psychic imprint with deeper, more sentient engagement in the inner life of the viewer. Sziksz’s work is a ritual performance related to her life experiences as an immigrant from Hungary 12 years ago.

She reflects on how Covid has created a deeper level of separation from her family within her work related to memories and inspired a new collection, Waiting.

I print repeated family portraits using ephemeral materials like ice, sand, MSG, milk, and ash that quickly wash away. Nothing lasts forever— and paradoxically, sometimes all you can do is wait for something to change. This metaphor speaks to the organic metamorphoses of my materials: oil on canvas, print on paper, melting ice sheets, or fragile sand prints. I also print words that indicate coinciding feelings that mark me for what seems to be an eternity. For, I lose the sense of time in what feels like endless isolation. These sentient impressions of my work may be more important than the survival of the work itself.
