ALPHANUMERICS

ALPHANUMERICS | WILLIAM WAGGONER

JULY 10 - OCTOBER 10, 2021

Dab Art Co. is pleased to present ALPHANUMERICS, a solo exhibition of photographs by William Waggoner.

ALPHANUMERICS is a series of decorative paintings representing my lamentation that the future we have come to inhabit is nowhere near as dazzling as what was imagined 50-plus years ago. Instead of a sleek, space-age, push-button environment we instead have a cacophonous hodge-podge of styles and technology, from the mediocrity of faux-rustic décor to ingratiating smiley-faced digital devices. It’s both disheartening and disappointing for me, so these pieces have become a way to make my immediate surroundings look more like the ideal I wish would have happened.

The letter/number designations of each painting evoke the clinical identification tags of nearly everything in modern life, but also the enigmatic broadcasts of numbers stations, the short-wave radio signals of mysterious ciphers believed to be used by intelligence officers working in foreign countries. The Conent Project has compiled a collection of these bizarre and otherworldly recordings, a disquieting testament to mysterious and unseen forces at work around us.

William Waggoner

Born and raised in central New Jersey, William Waggoner has been able to turn his self-taught talents for art into a sustainable career path when forays into other vocations proved unfulfilling. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Boston's Emerson College, William worked in the Los Angeles film industry before returning to the East Coast, where he now resides.

William's work is notable for its eye-catching compositions and bold use of colors, displaying an urbanistic Pop Art and abstract style rich with enigmatic imagery and dynamic action. His work has been represented by the Phyllis Stein Art Gallery in Los Angeles, and is currently held by private collectors in New Jersey, New York, California, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Missouri, and France.

In addition to a fine arts career, William is also the owner and creative director of Studio Alpha Design, a commercial arts design agency located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
